Bunions and Bunion Pain (Hallux Abducto Valgus)
A bunion is a misalignment and enlargement of the joint at the side of the big toe. The big toe is bent inwards and a bony lump forms on the outside. Over time the lump becomes larger as the join misalignment increases and the bunion can become painful.
Callous may develop on the bunion and Arthritis and stiffness can eventually develop.
What exactly causes bunions?
Bunions are usually a result of faulty foot mechanics – in particularĀ overpronation (rolling inwards of the foot). Also, wearing footwear that is too tight whereby the toes are squeezed together may be a contributing factor.
Treatment of bunions (in fashion shoes)
Footlogics ‘Catwalk’ orthotics can help prevent the formation of bunions by restoring our normal foot function and controlling excess pronation. Also, the metatarsal support will help reduce pressure and friction, placed on the big toe joint.
Treatment of bunions (in flat shoes)
However, bunions are not just limited to women wearing high heels. They can also develop in men (wearing normal flat footwear). To ease bunions and help prevent further development, wearing Footlogics Casual insoles or Footlogics Comfort can greatly assist.
